Synthetic drugs

The Victorian Government has made the leap to ban synthetic drugs. While this is a great leap towards the right direction, there are still ways in which the drug manufacturers are changing the drug formula ever so slightly to outrun the law. The way to elicit change is with prevention and early intervention.

“Synthetic drugs such as “herbal highs” and “party pills” will be banned in Victoria, as the State Government moves to close a legal loophole.

Under the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Act, such products are banned individually after they come onto the market and are detected by authorities.

But Police Minister Lisa Neville said drug makers were getting around the legislation by tweaking the formula of products after they were banned, to create “new” products that were not listed on the banned register.”
